Yicheng is an urban designer and planner currently living in Long Island City, New York. Born in Zhejiang, China, he strongly desires in designing a city, landscape, architecture, and space for people and nature. Yicheng’s mission as a designer is to confront chaos, inequality, discrimination, and deficiency by creating innovative strategies and finding opportunities via multiple interventions to revitalize humanity. More than urban planning and design, Yicheng seeks to discover a new way of communicating society and world through creative methodologies and unprecedented design techniques.
He won several prizes such as his postgraduate project with his GSAPP colleagues, "Watershared", installing community water recirculation systems, which address scarcity in water supply in low-income communities in Amman. This project received global shortlist (12/1200) and regional winner award hosted by Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) in partnership with UNESCO UKNC and the ACU.  Majoring in Urban Planning at Wuhan University, he focused on typologies of traditional Chinese neighborhoods and the conflicts between urban sprawl and landscape. His urban recreation project, “The suture” was selected in the exhibition of 9th International Biennial of Landscape Architecture, Barcelona.  Besides, “Back where you come from”, received 2nd prize award from Wudu Cup Beautiful Village Planning Competition of Hubei province.
After jumping into his professional field, Yicheng participated in urban design projects in multiple scales including new town masterplan, housing, civil engineering planning in Zhejiang Urban & Rural Planning Design Institute. Besides, he worked as a Landscape designer in Shanghai, concentrating on tourism planning and courtyard landscape design. He is a founder and principal at Roof Space, A rooftop revitalization design studio, and managed the rooftop construction project for Wuhan University Student Innovation and Entrepreneurship Practice Center. Yicheng holds a Bachelor of Engineering in Urban Planning degrees from Wuhan University. He also holds a Master of Science in Architecture and Urban Design degree from Columbia University GSAPP.
